Description
Late medieval badges are small lead-tin pins from the late twelfth to the mid-sixteenth century, which reappear after hundreds of years in the soil. It is mainly with the help of a metal detector that so many thousands of badges have been 'beeped up' from Dutch and Flemish soil in the last 30 years. Thanks to their inexhaustible variation in depiction and themes, these pins offer us a unique insight into the popular culture of the late Middle Ages.
